Very light winds in Cumbuco

Sunday, December 31st, 2006

Since 2 weeks the winds are light in Cumbuco. You needed a big kite for sure, but sometimes the wind picked up in the afternoon.

The normal wind system is off currently, with the wind being a bit more northerly direction. Usually you have East winds, but it looks like that trade wind is missing, so currently we just have thermal winds.

But from today on it looks like the trades are back and we will have good winds again!

The forecast looks awesome!

Cumbuco has some kiters, but not as packed as in November. Can’t wait for the off-season, hopefully we will get great winds and empty lagoons! ;-)

I still have tons of pictures to be uploaded to the Pictures of the day or my gallery, so keep checking it!

Windy front today in Cumbuco!

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

Wow, a dark front came with some rain and very strong winds!

I rigged my 16 and had a good session, then suddenly a dark front came closer and winds picked up big time!

And I had to depower, which I normally don’t do ;-) . But still, I couldn’t hold the power, and I’m really used to hold a lot. I managed to do 3 jumps, wow, excellent hangtime, I wish I could handle it longer, that would have been a show!

I made it back to shore safely and someone catched my kite while I was riding towards the beach. I would have never entered the beach and landed on shore! Keep this in mind! And make sure someone on the beach sees your signal that you want to land. If not, go out again and come back in again, giving landing signs again. If you are in a storm front, stay away from shore!

Ride safe!

Nice sunset session at Cauipe

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

Yesterday we had a very nice sunset session at Barro do Cauipe. Rene Schmieder and some talented local riders where ripping for some photographers.

Perfect wind, warm water and air, sunshine, awesome riders, beautiful location and a beautiful sunset make a perfect setup for nice pictures.

Find a selection from my cam HERE, but I will also try to get shots from other cams.

And you know what’s best? Today it will be the same conditions!

I will try to shoot a small video from a local kid…he is amazing, and already sponsored by Naish Kiteboarding. He could ride PKRA easily. Stay tuned for more!

Cumbuco just before X-Mas

Friday, December 15th, 2006

These days it is slower in Cumbuco. Many people came in November, but now many left.

But from next week on many more kiters should arrive again for the X-Mas and New Years Eve weeks.

The wind has been light last week, but since 3 days it got stronger again. People are on 9-16 sqm kites.

Yesterday I went out with Dariusz from Nobile Kiteboarding and testing the 2007 666 boards. In the evening we had a nice Soja Filet Mignon at Gaucho, which is not on the menu. It is very excellent! If you want it, ask Gaucho for it.

Cumbuco recently got an ice cream store, the owner Peter is from Denmark and makes excellent ice cream. You will find it directly at the main street in Cumbuco. Be sure, I will be there at least every second day after dinner!

The forecast for the next days looks good, also some swell should come it. And then you need to know the small breaks along the coast where excellent wave conditions can be found.

What’s up in Cumbuco?

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Well, what would you expect? Of course, daily wind!

Lots of things to share with the kiting world!

Still some team riders are around, ripping on the lagoon.

Dariusz from Nobile is still here and will be some more days in Paracuru.

I had dinner with the inventor of the 5th line! Pretty interesting stories to tell!

I tried two different skimboards…it is cool, since you can ride both directions without jibing it! But I find it harder to do back turns in the waves.

I’m getting better in jibing my Mutant riding it strapless.

Taking a bigger board and going strapless is a lot of fun, specially in lighter winds, it will give you more joy then just trying to to smallest jumps. Try it!

I’m getting better in my big air kiteloops, had a great session the last two days and landing some pretty smooth.

Two days ago I went to the Taiba lagoon, here I met Alex Shogren, doing some nice 720 rotations with kiteloop and doing also big air kiteloops.

I’m still practicing different types of rotations with kiteloops…funny, that I can land a 720 with boardoff with my 16 but not with my 12, since my 12 always comes to the front too late…but it is the faster kite! Well, I need to practice more!

Last week we had an awesome swell coming in. Unbelievable conditions in Cumbuco!

We tried to kite on a secret lagoon close to Cumbuco, but it is a bit too gusty, but with a bow type kite it is manageable, if you want to be alone on the water!

See some picture of all in the Picture of the Day section.

And I have to state a warning: do not use the HSBC bank in Fortaleza to take money out of the ATM with your Maestro or credit card.

I heard about 5-10 guys who got taken money of their account.

Use Banco do Brasil and preferable during daytime!
