I just found this info in the web. This is a good guide on how to stay safe during your visit in Brazil:
Although not in every large city, but one of the unfortunate sides of travel in Brazil is the epidemic of violent street crime. Brazil’s large cities, especially of the north, northeast and southeast states, are notorious for attacks (against foreigners and locals alike), but do not let that deter you. Taking extra precautions to keep yourself safe while travelling in Brazil will let you enjoy your stay like millions of visitors do every year.
Do not walk around big cities at night — take taxis. On no account ever try to enter a slum (favela) without a guide and do not walk down shadowy streets at night. If you cannot depend on a Brazilian friend or relative to be your guide, consult a travel book to learn which areas of the city to avoid and when, as well as other safety tips.
Use your hotel’s safe for any valuables, or, better yet, don’t bring to Brazil anything you don’t really need. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash, wearing expensive or expensive-looking jewelry, and carrying any unnecessary electronic gear, loose purses or bags. Try to stash some extra money in a hidden spot on your person — such as a shoe or money belt — to make sure you can get back to your hotel. Pay attention to the way the locals dress and buy similar clothes for yourself: looking like a foreigner (e.g. dark socks with bermudas) is not wise as thieves will be after you for your money if they instantly see you are a gringo.
Always carry a small amount of cash that you can hand over quickly in a case of a mugging. However, don’t keep it somewhere easily seen such as in a men’s shirt pocket, as that will greatly increase your risk. Under no circustances try to run away or resist. Do not carry “deterrence” weapons. Stay calm and comply with their demands, and you’re unlikely to be hurt. Muggers will almost certainly outnumber and outsmart you, and “trying to be a hero” will achieve nothing apart from injury or death.
You don’t need to carry your passport to walk in the city but if you like this, use a little pocket inside your clothes (you can buy in airport mall). But be sure to have a photocopy of your passport with you at all times as required by law (Brazilian police are entitled the right to request identification, i.e. documents, from anyone behaving suspiciously).

What bad luck…didn’t kite for some days, and today the wind was perfectly strong to try the new Rhino07 14.0.
But after 15 minutes of being out, I did a boardoff, didn’t get high enough and knew that I will screw the landing, but I didn’t throw the board away far enough…so I perfectly landed with my left foot on the fin…lots of blood and now I have a nice cut.
Thanks to Marcelo from Sao Paulo, living in Canada, who helped me getting things right.
I went to the medical assistance in Cumbuco, which is located just behind the village to the left of the school up on the dunes. The service is for free! They cleaned it and put bandage on it and luckily it does not need to get sewn!
So, now I have lots of time to spend in front of the computer…which is good, since I have a fantastic new idea! That will rock!

Since beginning of January we had good winds. The last 3 days it was lighter, but you could still ride, since we had 13-18 knots of wind.
Today the wind was good, and the forecast looks good too. Also the swell will come so we expect some great days on empty beaches and lagoons! Many people left now, so we have the beaches all for us!
Björn Viane ist still around until the end of Feb. He will travel 3 days to Pecem, Taiba and Paracuru to shot a video.
I also heard that the North teamriders had a special camp in Fleixeras with Jaime Herraiz.
The camp is over now and I hope to meet Jaime before he leaves to have a chat about what is going on.

Wow, that was one of my best days on water so far today!
I went to the Cauipe lagoon near Cumbuco.
We had around 25 knots and I took my Vegas06 12.0. This kite is freaking good!
What a great session I had today.
I boosted very high and did all my old school tricks: board offs, one foots, deadmen, rotations and huge kite loops.
Damn, if ever one competition would show what was shown by all riders on the lagoon today, it would be the perfect kite show. This what a comp should look like!
Chris Bieber had a HDV cam with him, and he taped many jumps.
So one day you gonna see what I mean!
The next days look awesome according to the forecast, but next week it looks like rainy season is about to start…but we will see.
Tomorrow we might go to Paracuru, to get even more wind (hopefully 30+ knots) to jump as high as a kite!

Since one week we have daily winds again and the forecast looks fantastic!
Yesterday my day didn’t start well on the lagoon, since I missed so many jumps…so I decided to try a new trick since I fall in any time anyway!
So I tried a front 360 with boardoff and spinning the board 360 around the handle as well.
It took me quiet some time, but then I landed it!
The wind even picked up, and I had good power with my Vegas06 16. I managed to land a high triple rotation with board off and almost landed a 4 times rotation! Well, one day I will land it!

After about 3 weeks we had stronger winds again. Today it was about 20-25 knots.
I was totally powered on my Vegas06 16.0, but had excellent hangtime and could do my big airs and practicing board offs.
Finally I landed my 1080 board off as a fast rotation along the body axis. What an amazing feeling once you have the board in your hand and initialized the rotation…then you just wait and fly and rotate until you rotated 3 times…just cool!
Now I have to go to the lagoon and do it in higher altitude. Hopefully winds will stay, since Pile and Silvester want to do an Old School video…I hope they will let me in as well…but that video should be full with awesome action!

Mmmh, raining again…does the rainy season come earlier this year?
The forecast is always excellent, but it never comes as forecasted…hopefully this will change soon!
I already told my friends, that once they leave the wind will come!
Well, at least the buggy is working and I can hit the dunes!

Happy new year from Cumbuco. Well the year didn’t start so well…looks like the rainy season comes earlier this year.
The forecast looks good, but the wind never comes, or better to say it comes, but doesn’t get the extra wind speed like in the dry season.
I’m here a few weeks more so we will see if I can get back into big air mode
At least I can do my board-offs with rotation in light winds now! I had enough practice the last 3 weeks…
Tomorrow a big group of friends will leave, then I have more time for work, which is good, since some more features will be online soon. We will also change the blog system, then it will be much easier to upload pictures into your blog.
Stay tuned for the news about it.
I’m wishing everyone a windy and safe 2007!
