Old School Video

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Some weeks ago I put the teaser for my old school video online.

Click here to see the teaser.

I’m still collecting footage, but it is not easy, since there are only such few old school riders who can do high level old school.

And so many times no one films me so footage is hard to become.

Since some days the wind is disturb by the rain, so now we need some days with a bit more wind, to get more footage.

I also have been practicing new board off moves, including a 720 off-axis. Now I need to train more to make it stylish, meaning fully stretched, both axises. And I have more ideas for new moves.

I also regularly land my 4 times rotation board off. Still need to get it on tape though!

Currently Walter and Claudia from windkraftsport.com are here in Cumbuco and are shooting awesome pictures daily.

Go to windkraftsport.com and check all of them!

They did these nice pictures from me:

Stay tuned for the video, coming maybe in 4 weeks!

Big Boardoff Session

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Yesterday I had a great session doing tons of board offs and landing some new ones!

I went onto the Cauipe lagoon with my 14 and we had about 18 knots until 2 pm.

I was trying since one week to land a front 360 with board off, were I throw the board between the legs. And also doing a board off rotating the board around my body being upside down (like a deadman). I landed those for the first time!

I’m sure the people watching liked the show and soon I will have someone filming it and making an old school video!

Monday morning I’m scheduled to do a fotoshoot together with Abel Lago, and the photographer will be Carlos, who is the  is doing all the pictures for the KPWT and we will go old schooling! Then I should get nice pictures to show you!

And guess what: today is the first day with just 13 knots! Time to work and get things done! ;-)

Stay tuned!

Back in Brazil

Thursday, October 11th, 2007

I’m back in Cumbuco, Brazil for some months to enjoy the warm air and water, with almost daily wind.

The wind is excellent and it has been blowing since my arrival, with 15-30 knots.

Lots of things are going on in Cumbuco, since the KPWT held its Brazil stop in Cumbuco this year.

Many good riders from around the world came to compete in 4 disciplines:

freestyle, hangtime, wave and course race.

Find all press releases here: kiteblogs.com

I joined the Hangtime comp as well, but things didn’t really work out for me, so I ended up 10th … but next year I will join again and hopefully have a better result!

The competition was dominated in the freestyle section from the Dominican Riders, who came over from Cabarete:

Alex, Soto, Ariel Corniel, Jan Marcos Riveras and Manuel Rondon

Yesterday we had a video shooting at the Cauipe lagoon, and the guys made an awesome show.

Click here for some Pictures of the Day and here for a video teaser on kiteforum.TV .

More videos about the KPWT stop, the Dominicans and entertainment coming soon!

First session after 3 months!

Wednesday, June 6th, 2007

Finally, after 3 months of working I had a session!

I went to Gruener Brink on the island Fehmarn, about 1.5 hours drive from my city Hamburg.

Conditions were as forecasted with 5-6 Bft (up to 20 knots). I took my 16 and a 128 board.

The weather was cloudy and we had about 15° air and water. I had a 4mm full wetsuit, no shoes etc. It was not cold at all and I felt very comfortable.

Everything was nice, but damn, it is unbelievable what a difference a wetsuit makes!

In Brazil I land most of my board-offs…but here not one single one! I had to laugh, since it amazed me what a difference the wetsuit makes. I’m sure many of you can confirm this.

Here a video of that day: CLICK

Anyway, back to work, since we are about to release the new kitebeaches.com Version 2.0!

And I’m still fighting the pain in the complete body…

Off-season rocks!

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

What a nice day!

After some rainy days with stormy winds, the sky was totally blue today. The wind picked up at around 1pm.

We did a trip to Paracuru with a buggy on the beach, passed the Cauipe lagoon with about 8 kiters, then passed the huge Taiba lagoon with about 3 kiters. Due to teh rain, the Taiba lagoon is now double its size, awesome!

Arrived in Paracuru, and only 5 kites where up! Nice waves rolled in and we had a great day!

I’m going back to Germany this week, then the nice time with some nice kiting is over for some months! But I will be back!

Could have been seriously hurt - read why not!

Friday, February 9th, 2007

What a beautiful day!

Wind with 5-6 Bft, which is about 15-20 knots.

A nice swell was coming in, creating nice waves for carving and perfect ramps.

I took out my 12.0, was ok powered, but could play with waves and do higher jumps with my old school style.

It was perfect…

Then I helped a guy to land his kite on the beach, and went back into the water. There was a guy coming in while I got out. Then I saw him doing a small jump or spin, therefore I started to watch his kite…that was the best thing I could have done today! I only saw the kite coming down on my at full speed, aiming perfectly at my head!

I hoped he will get it up again but no, so I protected my head with my arms and went down on the water…bumm, and it hit me! My kite started to spin, so I released.

And downwind was a small Jangada (small, local fisherboat)…but luckily the kite stopped to spin and went down on the 5th line.

My bar ripped his kite, now he has a big rip from the front tube to the back of the kite.

My kite only had 6 broken Cambattens, and my arm has a slight cut, but nothing serious.

We swam back to the beach, some guys came in and helped us out. The other rider was very sorry and apologized many times.

I cannot mention it enough, but ALWAYS keep and eye on the kite and rider if someone is upwind of you. Watch their action, if they do anything than just ride, but do tricks, just watch their kite until you are far enough away from it.

This anticipation and observing is needed on the various lagoons around Cumbuco to avoid getting injured. During the windy season, they get packed, but if you know the right-of-way rules, and keep watching what is going on, you will have an awesome time!

Back again! Shoes?

Thursday, February 8th, 2007

The cut healed and I’m back on the water since two days!

But the first day I put on one shoe on the foot with the cut…it really surprised me!

I did my usual boardoffs and didn’t land one! It was harder to reach and to get the board back on…just due to the shoe!

I couldn’t believe it!

So I just took a sock yesterday to have a bit of a cover to protect the cut a bit, and that worked really well!

Keep an eye on www.kiteforum.tv

since here I will upload a video from Chris, called “The Krauts”, which was filmed around Cumbuco and has nice action of various styles.

And I will upload my PKRA Germany 2006 video, which shows 35 minutes of a great event from August 2006.

Shit - hurt myself

Friday, January 26th, 2007

What bad luck…didn’t kite for some days, and today the wind was perfectly strong to try the new Rhino07 14.0.

But after 15 minutes of being out, I did a boardoff, didn’t get high enough and knew that I will screw the landing, but I didn’t throw the board away far enough…so I perfectly landed with my left foot on the fin…lots of blood and now I have a nice cut.

Thanks to Marcelo from Sao Paulo, living in Canada, who helped me getting things right.

I went to the medical assistance in Cumbuco, which is located just behind the village to the left of the school up on the dunes. The service is for free! They cleaned it and put bandage on it and luckily it does not need to get sewn!

So, now I have lots of time to spend in front of the computer…which is good, since I have a fantastic new idea! That will rock!

Cumbuco these days

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Since beginning of January we had good winds. The last 3 days it was lighter, but you could still ride, since we had 13-18 knots of wind.

Today the wind was good, and the forecast looks good too. Also the swell will come so we expect some great days on empty beaches and lagoons! Many people left now, so we have the beaches all for us!

Björn Viane ist still around until the end of Feb. He will travel 3 days to Pecem, Taiba and Paracuru to shot a video.

I also heard that the North teamriders had a special camp in Fleixeras with Jaime Herraiz.

The camp is over now and I hope to meet Jaime before he leaves to have a chat about what is going on.

What a day…

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

Wow, that was one of my best days on water so far today!

I went to the Cauipe lagoon near Cumbuco.

We had around 25 knots and I took my Vegas06 12.0. This kite is freaking good!

What a great session I had today.

I boosted very high and did all my old school tricks: board offs, one foots, deadmen, rotations and huge kite loops.

Damn, if ever one competition would show what was shown by all riders on the lagoon today, it would be the perfect kite show. This what a comp should look like!

Chris Bieber had a HDV cam with him, and he taped many jumps.

So one day you gonna see what I mean!

The next days look awesome according to the forecast, but next week it looks like rainy season is about to start…but we will see.

Tomorrow we might go to Paracuru, to get even more wind (hopefully 30+ knots) to jump as high as a kite!
