Lagoa do Sonho - it’s gonna be fantastic!

Monday, March 10th, 2008

2 months since the last update passed by…what happend meanwhile?

The street took longer than expected, since a big dune had to be passed.Only few meters missing, then the trucks with construction material can start to use the road to deliver their goods.

But within the 2 months exciting things happen. A big investor will invest and a lagoon landscape will be created.

The area will be the most exclusive lagoon area in the world. Several lagoons from different investors will be build.
The natural look of the area will be kept, so only private homes and small, beautiful guest houses will be build with lots of space in between. Houses will have its price, specially on one lagoon, which might only have 4 private houses and 3 exclusive guest houses.

Here an official press release from the project managers with some pictures:

I’m looking forward now for the next project plans showing the area in the future.

It will be an interesting week!

Lagoa do Sonho - update!

Friday, January 18th, 2008

It has been a while since the last update.

So, what is the status? Is the lagoon happening?

The construction of the lagoon, private houses, apartments  and guest house has not been started yet, since they are waiting for the road to be finished. Two roads will be build, one to the lagoon project, one to the resort project.

One road is almost finished, the other will take some more weeks. But to start construction it is needed for the road to be finished to be able to get all materials to where they are needed. Some dunes stop the trucks from doing so.

Furthermore the actual size and location is not 100% sure yet, some more wind tests and trials are needed to get the best setup possible. End of Januray they should have more info regarding this. Then maybe the site plan will be changed.

If you want further info about this, I’m happy to help out, since I will follow this project until it will be finished.

Just e-mail me: info@kiteforum….

But here you can see already pictures of the construction of the road.

Lagoa do Sonho - what is going on?

Monday, November 26th, 2007

In my previous blog I reported about the Lago do Sonho…a private lagoon in the NE of Brazil.

Some time has passed by now, so what is the status?

Some changes have been done to the plan…so it takes more time than fore casted. But here you can see a plan of how it will look like…

lds plan 1

The lagoon will have clean, fresh water. From behind the project windmills will pump from under the earth cleanest water into the lagoon. The lagoon depth will be about 1.8 meter, and if more water gets into it, the water will rinse off tot he ocean, this way the water always stays clean.

On the sides of the lagoon lights will be installed under the water so people can kite once it gets dark (around 5-6 pm).

Still sounds like a dream, right?

I will keep you informed about its development…January 2nd the construction is scheduled to start…

Stay safe in Brazil

Saturday, January 27th, 2007

I just found this info in the web. This is a good guide on how to stay safe during your visit in Brazil:

Although not in every large city, but one of the unfortunate sides of travel in Brazil is the epidemic of violent street crime. Brazil’s large cities, especially of the north, northeast and southeast states, are notorious for attacks (against foreigners and locals alike), but do not let that deter you. Taking extra precautions to keep yourself safe while travelling in Brazil will let you enjoy your stay like millions of visitors do every year.

Do not walk around big cities at night — take taxis. On no account ever try to enter a slum (favela) without a guide and do not walk down shadowy streets at night. If you cannot depend on a Brazilian friend or relative to be your guide, consult a travel book to learn which areas of the city to avoid and when, as well as other safety tips.

Use your hotel’s safe for any valuables, or, better yet, don’t bring to Brazil anything you don’t really need. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash, wearing expensive or expensive-looking jewelry, and carrying any unnecessary electronic gear, loose purses or bags. Try to stash some extra money in a hidden spot on your person — such as a shoe or money belt — to make sure you can get back to your hotel. Pay attention to the way the locals dress and buy similar clothes for yourself: looking like a foreigner (e.g. dark socks with bermudas) is not wise as thieves will be after you for your money if they instantly see you are a gringo.

Always carry a small amount of cash that you can hand over quickly in a case of a mugging. However, don’t keep it somewhere easily seen such as in a men’s shirt pocket, as that will greatly increase your risk. Under no circustances try to run away or resist. Do not carry “deterrence” weapons. Stay calm and comply with their demands, and you’re unlikely to be hurt. Muggers will almost certainly outnumber and outsmart you, and “trying to be a hero” will achieve nothing apart from injury or death.

You don’t need to carry your passport to walk in the city but if you like this, use a little pocket inside your clothes (you can buy in airport mall). But be sure to have a photocopy of your passport with you at all times as required by law (Brazilian police are entitled the right to request identification, i.e. documents, from anyone behaving suspiciously).

Just returned from the PKRA Kite World Team Cup in Fleixeiras. I never went that far up the coast, it is about 1.5 hours drive from Cumbuco. Fleixeiras is beautiful and excellent for downwinders.

The downwinder from Lagoinha to Flexeiras or further to Mundau offers excellent waves and good winds. You will pass by a bigger and a small lagoon downwind of Lagoinha.

Watch out for some rocks and fishing sticks down the coast, which are exposed on low tide.

The beaches and more pictures will be uploaded soon to kitebeaches.com, but the majority is listed anyway. See the beaches on the satellite map (World Map).

The world team cup is a fun format, since it represents many disciplines of our sport. There are still some things to be improved, since the girls always loose to the boys in many disciplines, and also how a wace contest should be defined. For me Wave means strictly waves, which were beautifully demonstrated by the Best Dream Team member Ismai, who showed beautiful down the line surfing.

Since it is the first event of this kind, I’m sure we will see improvements for the next year.

See pictures of the World Team Cup in the Pictures of the Day section.

Nowadays many kiters are coming to Cumbuco, Taiba, Paracuru and all along the coast, making the lagoons more packed. But that couldn’t stop Ruebn Lenten from showing excellent action, filmed by Susi Mai. So expect an excellent movie on kiteforum.TV within the next week.

But don’t ask me the names of the tricks, even Ruben didn’t know how to name his double whatever pass. Looked “sick” for sure! And he landed 3 in a row!

Ruben will travel up the coast to Jeri for very strong winds to show his awesome big air new school style, as you can see here already: Len10 Back on Track

I will organize a fun competition soon in Cumbuco, a discipline which has never done before! I will keep you updated!

Ride safe!
